Mary has provided caring service to Flint and Genesee County for more than 40 years, most recently as a caseworker at Family Service Agency of Mid Michigan for senior clients who require guardianship. Mary exceeds her quarterly visitation requirements and sees her clients every month. She develops close relationships with her clients to ensure they have the greatest possible care.
She is so dedicated to this service that she is opting out of retirement to continue to assist the community’s most vulnerable residents. Even throughout the pandemic, she opted for as many in-person visits as possible so her seniors did not feel forgotten. Rain or shine, Mary spent her quarantine driving to clients’ homes with a lawn chair to visit and make sure they felt cared for.
Mary is so dedicated to the community that she spends her day off — Tuesdays — volunteering at local food banks. Prior to COVID-19, she hadn’t missed a Tuesday in years.
“I am accepting this recognition on behalf of our entire agency. I believe we all feel a commitment to the people we try to help. I could not do the work I do without the help of all my co-workers.”
