SERVPRO is being called on by numerous businesses to clean, disinfect, and sanitize their properties. All our cleanup practices are done in accordance with guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local authorities.
As the owner of SERVPRO of Northwest Genesee County, Josh Ingersoll and his team have helped clean fire scenes, restore homes damaged by water, and disinfect spaces contaminated by airborne and blood-borne pathogens, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other contagions.
“It’s the same process (as other biohazard cleanups), and we have extensive experience,” said Ingersoll. “We are ready to be here for our friends and neighbors in their time of need.”
Ingersoll and his crews, who also cover the Fenton and Port Huron regions, are now prepared to perform proactive coronavirus cleaning for residential and commercial property owners. The disease has spread rapidly – affecting more than 570,000 people in Michigan and more than 23 million across the U.S. (as of Jan. 14, 2021) – and has changed everything from daily social interactions to work schedules as health officials try to stem the tide.
SERVPRO professionals, including Eric Chesser, owner of SERVPRO of Lapeer, use the company’s proprietary cleaning system, combined with a CDC-recommended “List N” disinfectant. The disinfectant is also EPA-certified, hospital-grade and effective against viruses like coronavirus, both in vapor form and on hard, non-porous surfaces.
Trained technicians are equipped with personal protective equipment and specialized hydroxyl machines that can fog and clean any structure up to 5 million square feet.
The company’s wipe-down procedure focuses on high-touch surfaces and common areas, such as bathrooms, keyboards, handrails, elevators and doorknobs. Soft or porous surfaces, including carpets, rugs and furniture, are also sanitized during the deep clean.
Chesser said while there is no training specific to a pandemic, SERVPRO’s experience with prior health scares and other required sanitation efforts gives the local crews a leg up in the battle.
“Our company has an abundance of qualified staff, safety equipment and cleaning supplies,” he said. “We answer calls every day from people who need our help.”
Over the last few months, SERVPRO teams have disinfected many types of facilities including schools, municipal centers, medical centers during and after outbreaks. The company cannot prevent or cure coronavirus, but the cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing can help limit the spread.
